JM - Response to track

1. Post a link to track

2. What is the genre of this track? How can you tell?
The genre of this track is alternative rock/indie. This can be seen through the use of electic guitars, bass guitars and drums. Also there aren't any audio effects, such as autotuning, to enhance the song.

3. Do you think this track represents a high or lo fi video? Why?
I think that this track represents a lo fi video because The Enemy are one of the key bands in British modern rock, and British rock bands have always typically had lo fi videos set in urban/sub-urban locations, with very few visual effects and a realistic and relateable feel.

4. Post some comparable videos to your chosen track
Some comparable videos include:

  • Arctic Monkeys - 'Leave Before the Lights Come On'
  • Kaiser Chiefs - 'I Predict A Riot'
  • Kid British - 'Our House is Dadless'
  • The Streets - 'Irony of It All'

These videos are comparable because they are all reasonably lo fi and all the featured artists are British.

5. Find out the budget for one of the above examples.

6. Give an outline of a treatment

In our video we are going to use the four 'characters' mentioned in the lyrics, and the lead singer. these four characters will be shown in everyday places acting in the manner that the lyrics describe them (e.g. 'Danny was A Bad Boy He Liked To Kick And Scream And Shout' Danny will be shown out drinking with the lads, possibly causing a rucus). These characters will join the lead singer throughout the video in performance shot each playing seperate instruments.

7. Identify suitable locations for filming particular sequences of the music.

Certain parts of the song could be filmed at someones house, specificly when the good boy and girls are mentioned. Other parts could be filmed in the middle of a town at night, specificly the shots involving the bad boy and girl. Finally the performance shots we plan to try and use the drama studio so that we can have control over lighting.

8. Consider grain of voice. What characters would you use?

The lead singer has a very unique voice, it is quite grating and in this track his voice is raised. Obviously therefore we would need a male to play the role of the lead singer.

9. What pro-filmic and post-production special affects would be suitable?

Im not sure that many, if any, would be required.

10. Who else would you need to 'employ' to help you with this production?

For our music we need people who can convincingly play (or give the impression of playing) instruments, because people randomly drumming and strumming would look unprofessional. Between our group I think we know people who play the instruments included in the track, it is just a case of finding people who also look like the fit the genre. Therefore it could be an idea to get people whose look fits the genre and allow them to get practice to look like the know what they are doing.

  1. Josh - while you answer the set questions, there is not enough detail here for a L4 response. You need to be more explicit on visual ideas, what conventions are apparent, stylistic features would be appropriate, any specific technical ideas. Your work must be more thorough, full of terms and a real record of creative ideas.
Also - if possible embed clips or at least set the link to open in new window - basic use of ICT for web.
You are going to have to pick it up for a L4
