RC - Digital Technology: Reflect on how new HD cameras will impact on filming in comparison to AS.

This year, due to the arrival of new HD cameras, I feel that shooting for my group's music video will be of a much higher standard because of the better quality of film that these cameras produce.
After using one of these new cameras for the first time, I came to the conclusion that they are much easier to handle, as they are smaller and more lightweight. This means transportation of this device is then made easier but also, when holding one of these cameras for long durations of time the lighter weight allows the holder to film without feeling the effects of handling a camera.
These new cameras also connect to the computer through USB rather than capturing via firewire, so in comparison to the cameras used last year it will be a lot less hassle capturing our footage. This is because we do not have to go through the process of locating a firewire and then eventually plugging it into the camera and the computer, using a USB means we can connect almost instantly saving, if only a little, time.
The HD cameras have a touch screen functionality, proving again that in comparison to the old cameras that were used at AS level the new ones are much more efficient. This is because a touch screen function means controlling the camera is almost effortless, as a simple finger to screen touch causes the camera to do what you want it to do.
Using these new cameras means that we no longer have to use DV tapes, and instead can use an SD card, which is another reason for why filming this year is being made slightly more simple. Using a card in replacement of a tape is more of an adept way of recording our video, as it means we avoid unnecessary larger equipment. Tapes are also fragile, whereas an SD card is more of a solid way of taping our video and is not likely to break as easily as a tape.
