Casey has mentioned about possibly including a montage in our video, below is the link to Look magazine's 2010 advert:
Here you can see how a series of stills have been used to create a montage sequence. I particularly like the part, between 0.04 and 0.05 seconds, where we see a boy and a girl in a kissing sequence, which helps to build a sense of narrative within this advert. This is the sort of effect we are thinking of producing ourselves.
One music video that uses photographic stills throughout is Sebastien Tellier's video to the song 'La Ritournelle'...
This video has to be one of my all time favourites, as the montage effect is ingenious and very innovative. One aspect that captured me was how open ended the narrative was, as the video allows you to construe the text anyway you like because of the many possible interpretations. It has many intertextual references, one of many being the strong resemblance of a boy meets girl storyline. The video engages the reader because of its focused viewing and narrative fuzz. It seems evident that this video would fit into the catergory of post-modern and you can tell that a lot of time and effort has gone into the making of this video, and it has definitely paid off.
Obviously if we were hoping to produce something of the same standard as this we would need a much longer time limit, as it is obvious a lot of editing is needed to create such a striking video. However, we can use this as inspiration and hope that what we construct is at least a quarter as good as this.
Casey has posted below a sketch of one of the female characters from our video, depicting how she imagines her to be presented. It reminded of the female from the TV advert for Drink Aware, called 'Binge drinking: Girl's night out':
